Is your medical office HIPAA Compliant?
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) required the Department of Health and Human Services to institute national security standards for health care information that is stored electronically. The rule adopting HIPAA security criteria was made official in February of 2003. This rule denotes a series of administrative, technical, and physical security measures to use in order to assure Tuckerthe confidentiality of electronically protected health information.

What does this mean? It means that health care organizations are faced with meeting technical requirements to ensure the confidentiality, availability and integrity of their data. This necessitates data/user authentication, data encryption, and other security measures.

Areas to watch for…
  • Is your Wireless Network Secure?
  • Does your entire Network have complex user name and passwords?
  • Do you have a true Network Firewall protecting your network?
  • Do you have Centralized Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software on your network?
Are you HIPAA compliant? If you answered "NO" to any questions above, you are most likely not HIPAA compliant. ProActive has the tools, solutions and experience to help your company become HIPAA compliant.
