Picture
a personal computer system capable of running Microsoft
Windows XP, Home or Pro, and guaranteed to run the most frequently used,
commercially available adaptive software products, like JAWS for Windows,
Window-Eyes, ZoomText and MAGic. An attached, high resolution
display for this new device is optional, but connection to any SVGA
display is only a keystroke away.
With three USB ports, an integrated modem, a 100 megabit Ethernet port, a PCMCIA card bus adapter and a Secure Digital/Memory Stick flash slot, you can connect to just about anything, anywhere at any time. Jacks for stereo headphones or speakers and a microphone are also included in addition to the built-in speaker and microphone. Bluetooth connectivity included in all Portico© systems to integrate with cell phone, PDA and other mobile technologies.
This business-capable machine is powered by Intel Core2 Duo mobile processor technology; using battery power in small trickles, but with plenty of gas to run optional voice dictation software while listening to your MP3 collection or watch up to 2 DVD movies with one a single charge of the battery. Naturally, all the current Microsoft productivity products run with ease and speed.
You
can burst through Websites at 100 megabit speeds for hours on a single charge with
Portico's wireless Ethernet adapter. This power-user's dream is about as wide and
long a standard sheet of paper, less than one inch thick and weighs less than a pound
without the screen. Portico© is the smallest, ultra-light personal accessible computer
of its kind. Nobody else comes close.
Portico© isn't just some notebook that had an unfortunate run-in with the guillotine. Portico© was designed from the ground-up to be portable, light and powerful. More than a notebook - care was taken in its development to ensure compatibility with the latest adaptive technologies and productivity tools. Experts in the field of engineering for the blind were consulted from the first steps of design, through delivery.
Note taking devices made for the blind, and other PDA's and Pocket PC's simply do not offer enough power and flexibility. Why synchronize a note taker with your desktop when you can take the power of a desktop wherever you go? You no longer need to struggle with watered-down software that converts your documents back and forth between PDA and PC, losing important formatting and design features. You can work with the real business tools you use every day. Collaborate and exchange information on an equal playing field.
There
are light notebooks out there, but none are designed like the Portico©. Some folks offer an
off-the-shelf notebook that has had the screen removed to increase portability and reduce
power consumption. The trouble is where to find support after the sale. We are more than
partners with ASUS. We designed the Portico©,
we manufacture the Portico©, and we provide
a full warranty for the Portico©.
The Portico© power system was custom designed to extend battery life. There is proprietary circuitry inside each Portico© and each Portico© battery. The BIOS of the Portico© has been configured to ensure optimal compatibility between the battery, power circuit and operating system. In addition to switching from LCD to desktop display, the user may easily, with one keystroke, turn off the power to the backlight of the Portico© display to further reduce power consumption when the display is not needed. Additionally, the user may turn off the Portico© glidepoint mouse with a single keystroke to ensure that the mouse doesn't interfere with non-visual access technology, like screen readers. There is no need to enter BIOS and the Portico© remembers which state the mouse was in before shutdown so you don't have to remember to switch it on or off each time you boot.
There is no sacrifice in accessibility with the Portico©. Portico© runs the latest assistive technology tools you are comfortable using on your desktop computer - tools that have become the industry standard. In addition, Portico© is a complete solution, bundled with exciting accessibility and productivity products. Because accessibility was built into the Portico© from the design stages and carried through, without compromise, to production, accessibility wasn't an afterthought, it has been Portico's purpose. While others offer systems with mixed success at integrating assistive technology and 'white box' versions of name brand computers, Portico© provides name brand quality and rock solid accessibility.
Portico© wasn't modified for you... Portico© was built for you.
