Technology: Nurses Care, So Should You

Updated: Feb 12

Nurses solve problems, test new therapies and provide tips and training to new nurses that save time and lives. Uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between technology and clinical practice, nurses adapt quickly, can work in a variety of settings including research and help to create innovative educational platforms for future nurses. Compared to the days of Florence Nightingale, the job of a nurse has become so much more than that of caregiver. They are critical to the health and well-being of patients and their data.

Technology is the Springboard

Technology has dramatically changed how nurses communicate and perform their work. It has made them more efficient and effective through compliance and security, helping to ensure that patient data is safe. Technology-rich environments offer structure that has made their jobs easier so that they are better at their jobs while offering them full faith in their work environments.

Today, nurses are more likely to input notes into electronic health records that keep a patient’s medical history up-to-date and easily accessible. Electronic charting has made it possible for them to quickly obtain information and efficiently use it to improve patient outcomes. Technology helps to prevent medication errors, provides quicker access to lab results and offers more efficient methods of patient education through online opportunites. Through telehealth, patients can quickly access a nurse to get answers to their pressing questions from the comfort of home. Teleconferencing allows nurses to obtain continuing education credits online, taking less time away from their jobs and families. Technology has streamlined information for better staff communications and improved staffing levels to provide patients with the best possible care.

National Nurses Week, May 6 - 12, 2019

To celebrate National Nurses Week, in which we take notice of nurse’s contributions to healthcare; we encourage healthcare providers to show their appreciation for the hard work and dedication they receive from nurses by providing technology-rich environments in which to work. This means having practice management solutions offering innovative technology that helps them work more efficiently, have immediate access to patient records, keep patient data safe and improve patient outcomes. In order to attract the best nurses with advanced clinical skills and technical savvy, healthcare organizations must keep up with technology. Nurses want to be in the nursing field to make a difference through their work helping people. They can achieve their goals through a solid foundation of trust, excellent patient care and cutting edge technology.
